Britain and the Falklands todayBritain is still very proud of the Falkland citizens, not only for their continued efforts to remain British despite all international pressure. The lasting effect of the conflict is one of patriotism. There is an element of nostalgia in this war The heroics of the outnumbered British soldiers fighting 8000 miles from home, with limited supplies and ammunition, outnumbered and not aware of the terrain and yet victorious is seemingly stereotypical of "Britishness." The soldiers that were killed in action are remembered amongst the 11th November Remembrance day parades, held in London every year. The Falklands war are remembered as an aspect of British culture in present day society. Most important of is this conflict is the rise in national pride in the years immediately after the conflict finished in Britain. |
Added to this, the conflict also reintroduced the importance of military with annual defence budgets.
In particular, the Navy has seen their 6 000 man Commando regiments sustained after their role in this conflict, which had, until this conflict, been scheduled to be removed and integrated with both the Army and the Royal Air Forces special forces. |
